During our life-time, we all experience pain, loss, joy, and most importantly love. But as the sun goes down at the end of our day here on earth, each of our lives are displayed as nothing more than a little dash on our headstones. Every story that we have shared, and every memory made and life touched is all summed up in this hyphen.
It is now said that the average life expectancy is anywhere between the ages of 65 and 75. Most people dream of growing up, getting married, having the perfect career, and settling down to live our lives. In our prusuit of this american dream I think that most of us forget to really live.
As children we dream of all of the things that we are going to do when we get bigger, and as we grow older all of our imagination is suppressed; we are told that we have to be realistic and are taught to pursue only the things that can "bring home the bacon," and make sense to those around us.
Ever since I was 13 I have been on fire with the passion to live life abudantly and have been blessed with people who have encouraged me to fight for life with a holy rage. It is this holy rage that I wish everyone would catch onto. 65 years in reality really isn't that long, so we shouldnt waste time frolicking in the fields of apathy. We have each been given talents, abilities, and passions that if enhanced can resonate the ripples of love across our generation. As Christians we are not called to live a life of apathy and indifference, but a life of reckless abandonment to love. Everyone's dash is approximately 1 cm long, but not everyone will take advantage of the dash that they have been allotted.
I daily try to remind myself that sometimes irrational childhood dreams make for the most epic of days. That the things we whole-heartedly believe in are worth fighting for, no matter what. People who seem like a lost cause are really only a few steps and an open heart away. The hurting of the third world can be band-aided with the power of Christ and the adhesion of a few dedicated dashes.
Because at the end of the day we have to remember that the whole world was changed by a single dash lived by one perfect man, who has left His legacy and holy rage to those He claims as His children
